The Hormone Lie: Why ”Eat Less, Move More” Stopped Working

Are you a women in your late thirties to early fifties finding that all the things that used to work for weight loss just aren't working anymore? You're doing everything "right," eating clean, moving your body yet... nothing budges. The scale's stuck, the belly's stubborn, and you're tired of hearing "just try harder."

What if I told you it's not you. It's cortisol, burnout, and hormones shifting after decades of hustle—kids, work, life. This isn't about another diet. It's about balancing what decades of extreme diets, exercise, and chronic stress have thrown out of whack. 

Eventually, the nervous and endocrine systems get burned out and that's when we start seeing that weight we've worked so hard to keep off start creeping back. We try harder, thinking cutting calories further, exercising more and harder will reverse it,  but it's actually making matters worse.

In order to release the weight we need to calm the nervous system, fuel our bodies not starve, exercise in a way that supports hormones rather than adding stress, and change our inner dialogue.

Without taking this into consideration you could be spinning your wheels following a fitness program that is based on a completely body type from yours. In fact, did you know that the vast majority of weight loss and fitness research is based on 25-year-old men? It’s no wonder a lot of these one-approach fits all programs don’t work for most people!In recent years, I have seen more programs advertising that they customize the program to your body. Yet, when you get int there, you find it isn’t really what you’d think based on the advertising. For example, they will have everyone follow the same workouts, the same nutrition approach, or both. Someone who struggles to gain weight and wants to transform their body to gain some muscle and shape will need a very different approach from someone who wants to lose body fat and tone their physique. Without knowing your body type you may be spinning your wheels trying to follow a weight loss or fitness program that is based on a completely body type from yours, like I have done numerous times. Even some of the programs that claim to provide a custom approach, don’t actually customize based on your unique body. I’ve been conducting some research on this in recent months and today I am discussing the three different body types, or somatotypes and why knowing yours is important for your body goals. Today I am sharing some tips to help guide you through the inner healing process. Shadow work and self-healing can be difficult work, but the reward far outweighs the difficulty of it. The early stages of it can be really tough, but as you gain insight and experience breakthroughs it gets easier and you will almost want to kick yourself for avoiding it, because what is on the other side is beautiful. I spent about a year doing my own self-healing work, or at least having that be my primary focus. I know now it is lifelong and ongoing, but once you get the hang of it you can move through things faster and with less turmoil. I developed some tips to help with guiding the process based on my own journey with this:   
 
Commit to doing this for yourself.
Lean into the work.
Give yourself grace.
Ask for help and support when needed.

Find ways to add fruit and veggies to every meal and snack.
Don’t be afraid to experiment.
Dress them up, add flavor.
