The Hormone Lie: Why ”Eat Less, Move More” Stopped Working

Are you a women in your late thirties to early fifties finding that all the things that used to work for weight loss just aren't working anymore? You're doing everything "right," eating clean, moving your body yet... nothing budges. The scale's stuck, the belly's stubborn, and you're tired of hearing "just try harder."

What if I told you it's not you. It's cortisol, burnout, and hormones shifting after decades of hustle—kids, work, life. This isn't about another diet. It's about balancing what decades of extreme diets, exercise, and chronic stress have thrown out of whack. 

Eventually, the nervous and endocrine systems get burned out and that's when we start seeing that weight we've worked so hard to keep off start creeping back. We try harder, thinking cutting calories further, exercising more and harder will reverse it,  but it's actually making matters worse.

In order to release the weight we need to calm the nervous system, fuel our bodies not starve, exercise in a way that supports hormones rather than adding stress, and change our inner dialogue.

It all stemmed from not loving myself enough and not fully accepting myself. Looking back there are several signs of my not loving myself enough. These are:

Many of us, myself included for many years, seem to try and operate on as little sleep as possible. It’s like we are trying to squeeze more hours out of the day. As much as we may want to get more done or try and get by with less sleep, it doesn’t do us any favors. It sounds so simple and easy to set boundaries, doesn’t it?  Yet, this is one of the most difficult things to do for most of us. We live in a culture that encourages and rewards hustle, which leads us to believe we have to do more, give more, be more, to “earn” the income we want, to have the life we want. This is complete garbage that really only serves your employers and the people who have become accustomed to you giving and doing and putting yourself last while putting everyone else first. If you are ready to break this cycle, set some healthy boundaries, and get your life back, then join me in today’s episode.
 
Today I am talking about setting boundaries. It is critical to getting started on and staying on your health and wellness journey. Lack of boundaries is one of the biggest reasons people struggle to get started with fitness and nutrition or to stick with it. We tell ourselves we have no time, we have to work late, we have to be at so and so’s event, and so on. This may be tough to hear, but none of this is true. We don’t truly have to do anything; we just convince ourselves that we do.  So how do we shift this? How do we get ourselves out of this cycle of hustle and burnout caused by lack of boundaries? How do we set boundaries for ourselves?
Evaluate where you are.
Determine how you want things to change.
Decide.
Commit.
Identify and release the limiting beliefs as the come up.

Today I am talking about mindset. Our minds and the way we think are so much more powerful than most of us realize. It’s often the last thing we think of when we think about weight loss or getting fit, but it is probably the most critical player in this endeavor. If you are like I was, the way you think and the way you speak to yourself when you look in the mirror is probably not the best. In fact, it may be downright horrible. I know it was the case for me. When I started making a conscious effort to change my mind, my whole life changed as well as my weight. So, how does one change their mindset? Well, there are several major steps:
Become aware of your current state of thinking.
Take stock of how your current state of thinking is affecting you.
Determine how you want to feel and the results you want.
Develop affirmations aligned to how you want to feel and your desired results.
Speak your affirmations daily.
